Dearth of lifesaving drugs in country: A scarcity of lifesaving drugs for different fatal diseases, including cancer, prevails in the country, throwing many patients into immense sufferings or untimely death, for lack of initiative for their production or official import.

These medicines aren’t available to serious patients everywhere in the country. Where found—mostly on the kerb market—the patients are to pay through their nose.

They are to depend on foreign drugs when local pharmaceutical companies export their products abroad to earn huge profits, pharmacy owners said.

SC starts SMS service on case info: The Supreme Court (SC) has recently started Short Message Service (SMS) system for the justice seekers to know their case status. From now on one can know one's case status by sending a simple SMS.

"For this a person has to first type SC, then a space, then type the nature of the case, ex- CIVIL/CRIMINAL/WRIT, then again a space and type the case number and send it to 2233 number," SC system analyst Kazi Pervez Anwar told BSS.

On return message he/she will get the status of his/her case's present status, he added.
Pervez also said the SC website has also been modernized and the latest update of the cases is being put there on daily basis. Interested people can know of their cases by searching on the site. The Bangladesh Today.

Bangladesh starts monitoring mosques and madrassas, says Islamic Foundation's Director General Shamim Mohammed Afzal: Facing threat from militants and extremists, Bangladesh has launched a nationwide programme for monitoring mosques and madrasas to ensure clerics follow guidelines issued by the state-run Islamic Foundation. Islamic Foundation's director general Shamim Mohammed Afzal told, "We have engaged our 40,000 staff having background in Islamic studies to monitor the mosques and see if the imams or khatibs are conveying our messages against militancy in line with the real Islamic teachings".
