CDC consults 17 political parties to delimit 240 constituencies: The Constituency Delimitation Commission (CDC) on July 1 held an interaction with representatives of 17 political parties represented in the previous Constituent Assembly (CA) to delimit 240 constituencies. Majority of the participants of the interaction emphasized that the CDC should be able to come up with scientific delimitation of the constituencies based on population. The CDC, which started its works nearly two weeks after it was formed on June 13, is scheduled to consult the experts on July 3. Nepal News, June 25, 2013.
18 of the 33 parties in CPN-Maoist-Baidya-led alliance decide to participate in CA elections: Eighteen of the 33 parties in the alliance led by Mohan Baidya's Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist-Baidya) have said they are going to take part in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections scheduled to be held in November 2013. The 18 parties announcing their decision at a press conference on June 21 also formed a separate alliance, called 'Progressive Democratic National Front'. Nepal News, June 22, 2013.
Government announces November 19 as the date for holding fresh CA elections: The Government on June 13 announced November 19 as the date for holding fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. The Government also formed a Constituency Delimitation Commission (CDC).
Later, on July 14, the President Ram Baran Yadav approved the draft of the election ordinance forwarded by the Interim Election Government. Nepal News , June 14-15, 2013.
HLPC taskforce agrees on 491-member Constituent Assembly: A meeting of the eight-member taskforce that is entrusted with the responsibility of offering suggestions to the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) on June 2 agreed on the proposal to downsize the 601-member Constituent Assembly (CA) to 491 members. As per the agreement, 240 members will be elected directly from electoral constituencies, other 240 will be nominated under the proportional representation system and the remaining 11 members will be appointed by the government.
A meeting of the HLPC, held at the Army integration Special Committee secretariat in New Baneshwor, on May 30 formed an eight-member taskforce to sort out contentious issues of the election-related ordinance. My Republica, May 31-June 3, 2013.
