Part II                                                   Part I

By Victoria Brittain *

The British security services quickly returned to a post-9/11 stance on overdrive. The same MI5 intelligence agents who had interrogated Moazzam while he was in U.S. custody asked to meet him again to get his thoughts on who might be behind the attacks. However, three years in U.S. custody and five months at home occupied with his family and his book had not made him a likely source of information on current strains of thought in the British Muslim community.

Terrorism: From Boston to Bengaluru

By Ajai Sahni
Editor, SAIR; Executive Director, ICM & SATP

Two dramatic terrorist attacks, one in Boston – during the iconic annual Boston marathon – in the US, and the other in Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka in India, have once again provoked frantic assessments of a ‘resurgence’ of terrorism and hand-wringing regarding the ‘failure’ of states to contain or neutralize this threat. One of the main accusations of the last electoral campaign in the United States was that Barack Obama had an unspoken design to change the United States into another Europe, beginning with health reform.

By Roberto Savio*

The flood of elegiac articles on former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is in itself a good measure of how we have all become Thatcherites without realising it. Only those who are not graced by a young age can see how the world and politics have changed so deeply since her days that it is correct to call her a “great revolutionary”.

US: Why the Boston Bombers Succeeded

By Scott Stewart
Vice President of Analysis

When seeking to place an attack like the April 15 Boston Marathon bombing into context, it is helpful to classify the actors responsible, if possible. Such a classification can help us understand how an attack fits into the analytical narrative of what is happening and what is likely to come. These classifications will consider factors such as ideology, state sponsorship and perhaps most important, the kind of operative involved.
