Ukraine Joining NATO Would be Trigger for War with Russia

By Debra Killalea – News.com.au

IT’S the nightmare scenario Europe and the rest of the west is dreading — an aggressive Moscow unleashes its military might, plunging Europe and the world into chaos.

But despite fears a potential war would include nuclear weapons, an Australian expert and former spy thinks there is a far more likely outcome. And it’s almost as terrifying.

“The red line in the sand is if NATO makes Ukraine a member,” Professor Paul Dibb, an Australian Russian expert, told news.com.au.

Germany has hit the headlines incessantly in the post-recession period. Under the circumstances, they’d probably have preferred not to. It was at the center of the existential debates surrounding the implosion of the Greek economy and the severe weakening of its southern neighbours. It took the lead in moments of crisis. Its solid fundamentals, prudent management of policy and ability to create solutions placed it at the forefront of the issues that continue to dog the zone. Is Germany still the region’s hot-spot?

America’s Oligarchs Support Clinton Almost Unanimously

By Eric Zuesse – Real Independent News & Film

The results are already in, even before the official campaign-finance final figures will become available after the election.

Though a large percentage of the people funding the campaign advertising will never be made public — due to recent Supreme Court decisions allowing “dark money” — data already exist on the final product of the campaigns (including both the above-board and the dark money), which is the booked advertising time for each of the two candidates at the start of their campaigns.

Of Obama as Reason to Stay in Race

By Robert Barsocchini

After Donald Trump’s comment this week that could possibly have been interpreted to be leaning towards brushing with suggesting the assassination or imprisonment of Hillary Clinton, or, more likely, as Robert Parry pointed out, some kind of violent revolution, Clinton Tweeted:

“A person seeking to be the President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way.”

He [Bill Clinton] wanted people to know the real Hillary.” John Podesta, Jul 28, 2016

Moving beyond idea, beyond type, beyond cardboard cuts, was always going to be a central feature of the Democratic National Convention in 2016. With a US presidential election set to run between two largely unpopular characters, Hillary Clinton needed to show that she was a touch more than merely the tried and the failed.

The Kochs Want Hillary Clinton to Become President

By Eric Zuesse - Washington Blog

The signs are now clear and unmistakable:

On July 25th, CNN headlined “Mike Pence to skip Koch brothers event” and reported that, “GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence will not attend the summer donor summit organized by Charles and David Koch, now unable to commit to an event after he was added to the ticket with Donald Trump. Pence, a Koch favorite, had originally committed to attending this weekend’s event.” In other words: Now that Pence represented Trump, the Kochs dumped Pence.

It’s not the first time the Kochs have indicated they won’t tolerate any politician who backs Trump against Hillary Clinton.

Kayhan Interview by Eric Walberg

1/ There is much talk of a third world war in the press these days. Francois Fillon, former French Prime Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, said there is a “global war” and that “French society as a whole must mobilize against Islamic totalitarianism”. Are these empty words?

1/ The threat of all-out nuclear war no longer hangs over us, but at present there are more than 30 wars/ conflicts in the world. Between 1950, when the Korean War started, and 2007, when the death toll in the Iraq war finally started to drop, there were 148,000 deaths per year from war. From 2008 to 2012 that figure dropped dramatically, to 28,000 per year. It could even be lower today.

By Russia Today

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump had made waves again, telling supporters that President Barack Obama “founded” Islamic State and calling his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton the terrorist group’s co-founder.

The GOP nominee’s description of Obama and Clinton as having founded Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is not new. However, Trump has doubled down on his attacks as the election nears, blaming the foreign policy of the former secretary of state for the mess in Iraq and Syria.
